1、Nissan

Electric motors have a wider power range than an internal combustion engine. Their torque curve is flatter, but their efficiency curve is far from flat.?

There would be a lot to gain from a choice of gears. Imagine a Nissan LEAF with a 5-liter V8 engine and a 5-speed manual blocked in third gear.

?Performance would be the same as with the standard electric motor, but the efficiency would be terrible. It would be much better with a 2-liter and a choice of gears, and the same reasoning also applies to an electric drive, though to a significantly lesser degree.?

With a transmission offering several speeds, the Nissan LEAF could do with a smaller motor, and it would be more efficient because it would be possible to keep that motor within the most efficient RPM range.

Do EV drivers want better performance and more range? Then just add gears. I'm pleased to report that several manufacturers are looking seriously into this.

2、ZF

The new module from ZF integrates an electric motor and a two-stage single-speed transmission in the same case. It also features a differential and a dedicated cooling unit.?

All of these components have power electronics and software. This fully developed solution is far from a bolt-on system, and it can significantly reduce development costs for upcoming electric cars.

The axial length of the unit is 45 centimeters (17.7 inches), with a width of 38 cm (14.9 inches). Its height is about 51 cm (20 in). While not entirely suitable for every car on the market today, carmakers can fit an axle like this in just about any upcoming model if they see fit.?

Since the European Union is pressing carmakers to reduce the emissions of their vehicles, turning some cars into hybrids could be a solution for many carmakers, and this system could come in handy.

The engine reaches speeds of up to 13,000 rpm, and the single-speed transmission has a ratio of 9.6:1. ZF has integrated a twin-stage operation to reduce noise and to ensure a compact package without including more gears.?

3、GM?Chevy

The Chevy Spark EV uses a very compact gearbox arrangement called a coaxial gearbox. It is coaxial because the centerline of the electric motor is also the center line of the axle shafts. Another unique part of the Spark co axial gearbox was the planetary gear reduction set.

Tesla Model S, and BMW i3 however use simple parallel-helical single speed gear reduction gear sets. What do we see in the Bolts Gearbox?

It is still a co-axial gearbox. The drive shafts are on the same axis as the motor.

However, the gear reduction set is now a simple parallel-helical gear set like Tesla and BMW i3.

Simple and lower cost than a planetary reduction set that was used in the Spark.

GM followed the “keep it simple” principal in the Bolt without sacrificing performance. This is essential if we want lower cost EV’s for the masses that are also fun to drive.

4、Bonfiglioli?

5、BorgWarner

6、Inhabitat

Engineers at the California-based car company had previously been working toward an endurance of 200,000 miles for its electric drive units. The drive unit is the part that holds the electric motor (or motors on the dual-motor models). In his last quarterly update, CEO Elon Musk mentioned the team has now shifted its focus toward a much longer endurance. Now, Tesla is shooting for a one-million-mile engine.

“We are very happy with the quality of the drive unit,” Musk said on a conference call with investors. “We changed the goal of the drive unit endurance from being approximately 200,000 miles to being a million miles – just basically we want drive units that just never wear out. That’s our goal. I think we made really good progress in that direction. The drive units that are going out now and for the last several months have been excellent.”

7、GKN for BMW

or electric vehicles, power delivery is sent to the wheels via a single-speed transmission. The new BMW i3 also uses a single-speed box to rotate the rear wheels. But according to a report by Wards Auto, a multi-speed transmission for EVs is just a few years away.

For most electric vehicles today, the 1-speed transmission is sufficient since it can handle plenty of torque. Tesla is one of the automakers that tried a 2-speed transmission before it launched the Model S, but the product wasn’t found fit. Model S now uses a single-speed gearbox designed by ZF.

But the gearbox maker says that could change within five or six years.

In the BMW i8, the electric motor drives the front wheels via a GKN two-speed automatic gearbox which always run in first gear while in eDrive mode but switches directly to second gear in the mixed modes.

“For passenger cars, I would say we will probably eventually rise up to 3- or 4-speeds,” James Potter, controls manager for ZF Powertrain Technology, says to Wards Auto.

“Two-speeds are coming out, and that will be the next generation,” he says.

8、GKN

When Volvo was looking for a driveline partner for all variants of its all-new XC90, it needed to ensure its supplier had expertise across both conventional and electrified hybrid drivelines. GKN was the logical answer.

Volvo’s requirements were particularly clear for the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) T8 Twin Engine XC90. To produce a vehicle with the refined drive dynamics and performance associated with a top end Volvo - and the off-road capabilities of a premium SUV - but with great fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions levels required to satisfy Volvo’s environmentally-conscious target customer.?

GKN developed an all-new high torque density co-axial electric axle (eAxle) that met these requirements, helping to intelligently transform power from the electric motor on the rear axle to torque on the road, providing the driver with pure electric drive or electric all-wheel drive as required.

New eAxle offers three key advantages over conventional electric drivelines. 10、Honda Fit EV本田混動

The Fit EV is not only efficient, it’s also quick. The powertrain can produce 189 foot pounds of torque, which is substantially more than 105 foot pounds of torque in the conventional five-passenger subcompact equipped with an internal combustion engine. Fit EV’s electric motor produce 123 horsepower.302/5000 ?

With the right 240-volt charging station, the car can be up and frothing in just three hours. Honda puts range at 82 miles. Of the three driving modes, easily selected in full stride by pressing buttons to the left of the leather-wrapped wheel, economy is said to offer up to a seventeen-percent efficiency improvement. Our experience in urban driving suggested economy’s output of 47 kW would suffice in ordinary circumstances, and this could return combined efficiency of 118 MPGe. Normal mode makes up to 75 kW available.

11、Hybrid Hummer 混動悍馬

The prototype we'll see in Detroit at the Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress on Monday features a series-hybrid drive train similar to the Voltec system in the Chevrolet Volt. Like the Volt, the H3 will be driven solely by electricity. The engine – the 260-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder used in the Pontiac Solstice – will drive a 100-kilowatt generator to recharge the three lithium-ion battery packs. Fisker Automotive is using the same engine in its Karma range-extended EV.All together the battery packs have a combined capacity of 40 kilowatt hours and total weight of 600 pounds. Raser claims a recharge time of between 3 and 10 hours, depending upon the voltage of the outlet the batteries are plugged into.

For the sake of comparison, the Volt uses a 16-kWh pack that weighs 375 pounds, while the Tesla Roadster has a 53-kWh pack weighing 992 pounds.

12、Getrag格特拉克

The world is still waiting for a regular production electric car with a gearbox, but transmission manufacturers are rushing in with new products. After Antonov and Vocis, both British, Getrag, the German specialist, unveiled its own transmission specifically designed for electric cars at the Frankfurt motor show. The German company built more than 4 millions gearboxes last year, mostly 6-speeds, but this new 2eDCT600 is a 2-speed unit. With a dual clutch set-up for driving comfort, by power shifting without torque break.

Dubbed 2eDCT600, Getrag's two-speed unit is supposedly ideal for pure electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and range-extended automobiles. Getrag claims the 2eDCT600 can cope with a maximum electric motor input torque of 369 pound-feet and an output torque of up to 4,425 lb-ft.

The German firm touts its 2eDCT600 as a multi-speed solution that gives electric-drive vehicles improved launch capability and an increased top speed. Perhaps most importantly, Getrag claims its dual-clutch unit extends an electric-only vehicle's range by up to ten percent. That's a big number in the EV range game. Mercedes Benz AMG’s new SLS electric drive 2014 is considered the first car of its kind. The car operates on strictly electric power generated from 12 batteries giving an outcome of 400 Volts, 60 KWH. Since the car has no engine, engineers at AMG had to locate the batteries that weigh 548 Kg low down where the transmission tunnel is supposed to be, giving the car a low center of gravity. Surprisingly, the new SLS electric drive is considered the most powerful Mercedes AMG ever created. It produces 740 hours powers , 552 KW, and 100 Nm of torque. All of that with zero CO2 omission. Jeremy Clarkson, the host of BBC’s TopGear says:’ ?I can’t think of anything other than perhaps the Veyron that has this tsunami-surge of torque.

As previously reported, the SLS EV is powered by four electric motors. Benz claims it will accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 3.9 seconds and its top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. The powertrain, including its liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack, was a joint effort between AMG and Mercedes-Benz AMG High Performance Powertrains, the latter team providing their F1 expertise (Benz has yet to provide info on range). The SLS AMG Electric Drive isn’t confirmed for the U.S.486/5000 ?
